100 Questions & Answers about Brain Tumors
Dr. Virginia Stark-Vance, a leading neuro-oncologist and brain tumor specialist, co-authored the book "100 Questions & Answers About Brain Tumors." Together with a brain tumor survivor, she provides a unique dual perspective, offering comprehensive insights for newly diagnosed patients, survivors, and their support networks.
This authoritative resource covers treatment options, post-treatment quality of life, and sources of support in a compassionate and informative manner. Dr. Stark-Vance's dedication to improving the lives of those affected by brain tumors shines through in this essential guide, making it a valuable companion for anyone facing the challenges of this complex disease.
Legacy Brain Foundation
The Legacy Brain Foundation, a registered non-profit (501(3)c), is dedicated to providing vital support to children and adults diagnosed with central nervous system tumors. Founded in 2005, our mission is to alleviate the financial burdens faced by patients and their families during the treatment of these devastating diseases. We offer assistance for treatment expenses, emergency living expenses, and provide scholarships to brain tumor patients and their children attending college.
To date, we have raised over $400,000 through donations, events, and partnerships with other brain tumor organizations. Over 90% of funds raised directly support our mission, thanks to our dedicated all-volunteer board. Learn more about our Legacy Grant and Scholarship opportunities for Texas residents on our website, www.legacybrainfoundation.org. We're always in search of volunteers to join our mission, so please consider contributing your time and talents to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those affected by brain tumors.
First Avastin Trial
Dr. Virginia Stark-Vance's groundbreaking work in introducing bevacizumab (Avastin) for glioblastoma (GBM) patients marks a significant turning point in the battle against this aggressive brain cancer.
Before Dr. Stark-Vance's pioneering efforts, Avastin was not used for GBM treatment. The first documented use of this groundbreaking drug in GBM patients was a small series of individuals with recurrent GBM, all expertly treated under Dr. Stark-Vance's guidance. This groundbreaking initiative opened new doors of hope for patients facing this formidable disease, underscoring our dedication to pushing the boundaries of neuro-oncology care.
